Lincoln Celebrates 100 Years In Automotive Innovation

Originally established in 1917 as a private entity, the Lincoln Motor Company was purchased by the Ford Motor Company in 1922. Since then, Lincoln has produced some of the most luxurious passenger vehicles in the United States of America. As the iconic brand celebrates its centennial anniversary on the domestic market, let's take a closer look at some important milestones and other accomplishments.

Lincoln Brand: Celebrating a Century of Excellence

After World War II, Lincoln launched ambitious campaigns to produce some of the top luxury vehicles in the USA. The Continental Mark II coupe made its official debut in American showrooms in 1955. Despite its short-lived history, this ultra-luxury model paved the way for other successful models from the company for decades to come. In 1961, the Continental made a debut with coach-style doors for a rapidly evolving marketplace. The company introduced a garage door opener on the visors of the upscale Versailles model. In 1980, several parts of the dashboard in Lincoln models were upgraded into electric format. For example, the fuel gauges and speedometer had digital designs instead of classic analog configurations. A front-wheel drive (FWD) system finally made a debut on the Lincoln lineup, which was traditionally based on a rear-wheel drive (RWD) platform. A memory recall system was introduced to the roster in 1994. This innovative technology was synced with a remote transmitter for enhanced convenience.

In an intelligent effort to compete against other rivals, Lincoln launched its first hybrid model in 2010. The MKZ sedan provided good value in fuel economy without reducing comfort and other desirable features. Built for the evolving market for full-size SUVs in North America, the lavish Navigator concept model was unveiled in 2017. This spacious family car came with 30-way front seats, which included climate control and massages. In 2018, the legendary Continental nameplate celebrated its 80th anniversary in the USA. Through an exclusive relationship with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln incorporated the unique Symphonic Chimes into the cabins of select models. Additionally, the Aviator and Corsair trims debuted on the marketplace. Entering 2022, these SUVs offer class-leading value in performance, technology, safety and comfort. The Lincoln Co-Pilot360 technologies deliver some of the most sophisticated accident-prevention measures in the industry. The Lincoln Connect technology is also integrated into the multimedia consoles in the latest models from this iconic American brand.
