Car Not Accelerating

If your Lincoln is not accelerating properly, there may be a few possible explanations. Your Lincoln likely has a problem with its engine or mechanical system, which can lead to serious issues if they are not addressed right away. Your Lincoln will exhibit several signs if there is something amiss with the engine. One problem that you will notice is that the car doesn't accelerate quickly when you step on the gas pedal. The engine may seem sluggish, and the vehicle may also have problems with rough starting or idling.

Dirty Oxygen Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor

The oxygen sensor in your vehicle is one small part that can easily encounter problems that affect the engine and its performance. The oxygen sensor helps ensure that there is a sufficient amount of oxygenated air in the car. The oxygen sensor normally monitors oxygen levels in the engine and adjusts the amount of oxygen that the vehicle receives in its mechanical system based on the engine's requirements. If the oxygen sensor gets dirty, it can't deliver sufficient amounts of oxygen into the engine, affecting the engine's performance. Similarly, the mass airflow sensor ensures that the engine has enough airflow. If the mass airflow sensor gets dirty or otherwise breaks, it can't regulate the volume of air in the vehicle's engine.

Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

A malfunctioning throttle position sensor can also pose a problem in your car. The throttle position sensor controls how much fuel the engine receives. The sensor is hooked up to a computer in the engine to monitor fuel consumption. Like other sensors in the engine, the throttle position sensor can get contaminated with debris or otherwise break. The sensor will have to be either cleaned or replaced to stay in top working condition.

Clogged Fuel Filter

A clogged fuel filter may be another explanation for your engine's performance suffering. The fuel filter can become clogged if it is not changed regularly, making routine vehicle maintenance important. The fuel filter should stop contaminants from infiltrating the engine, but it can't keep debris out of the engine if its surface becomes coated with contaminants.

Dirty Air Filter

The air filter is a similar part of the engine that affects the car's performance. The air filter usually keeps dirt, pollen, dust, and other airborne contaminants from entering the fuel lines and causing problems with your car. However, a dirty air filter can cause engine and acceleration problems.
