Hearing abnormal sounds coming from your car can be a cause for concern. Some of the most common parts in a vehicle that makes unusual sounds are engine and brakes. The list below explains the different types of car sounds and what issues they may be indicating.

Squeaky Brakes

Car brakes are put through a great deal of stress every day. When you notice squeaking sounds from your brakes, seek professional help to alleviate the noise. The braking components may need adjustments or replacements. When brakes parts start wearing thin, you may need an expert's attention to check on the rotors and pads.

Engine Rattling

The leading cause of rattling sounds in your car engine is due to pre-detonation or premature ignition. The problem with pre-detonation can be caused by various issues, including an improper fuel octane, poor ignition timing, and also engine overheating. The overall result of the above problems is the inappropriate mixing of fuel and air in the engine cylinder, causing an early ignition. There are dangerous consequences associated with this if addressed. It can damage pistons, valves, and connecting rods.

Engine Clicking

The various clicking sounds are a result of low oil levels. In this case, use a dipstick to check on the oil levels. If they are below the mark, then there is a need to refill the oil. If the problem is not solved, the upper valve train might have damaged parts.

Knocking under the Hood

Knocking sounds emanating from under the hood will likely need special and immediate attention. A mechanic is the best person to check and determine if the problems originate from damaged parts like pistons, valves, or connecting rods.

Engine Squealing

An engine squealing sound can be produced from different parts of your vehicle. For the older models, consider checking the accessory belts for excessive wear or improper tension. For the newer models, the serpentine belt could be the culprit.

Every year, Aug. 15 marks National Relaxation Day. Americans are encouraged to pause, take a deep breath, and do whatever helps them relax and unwind. The premise of National Relaxation Day is that stress is increasingly prevalent in our daily lives, but few people take time out of their day to relax and reduce stress levels. This year, Lincoln participated in National Relaxation Day by encouraging people to unwind in a Lincoln vehicle while enjoying all the relaxation-inspiring features and components that Lincoln offers.
