Electric Vehicle FAQs

1) I know EV means "Electric Vehicle", but what do PHEV, HEV, BEV, ZEV and ICE mean?

PHEV stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. PHEVs suit those transitioning from traditional gas and diesel cars but not fully ready for an electric vehicle.

HEV stands for Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Hybrids include both a gas engine and a battery but don't need plugging in for charging. HEV drivers often hear the gas engine running, with the battery replenishing through regenerative braking.

BEV stands for Battery Electric Vehicle. BEVs rely solely on battery power and operate as 100% electric vehicles.

ZEV stands for Zero Emission Vehicle. Any vehicle emitting no harmful pollutants from its exhaust pipe is considered a ZEV. BEVs exemplify ZEVs by operating entirely without emissions.

ICE stands for Internal Combustion Engine. These are conventional gas-powered vehicles.

2) Are Lincoln electric vehicles more expensive than gas engine vehicles?

Usually, EVs require less maintenance and have lower fuel costs in the long run, offsetting the purchase price. For instance, EVs don't need routine oil changes. Additionally, a Consumer Report study indicated that EV drivers typically spend around 60% less each year on fuel costs*.

3) How far can Lincoln electric cars go?

EV models offer excellent mileage. Here are some estimates:**

  • 2024 Nautilus Hybrid: Up to 39 mpg(city) and 33 mpg(highway)
  • 2024 Corsair Grand Touring: Up to 28 miles battery-only, 78 MPGe total

4) How long does it take to charge an electric Lincoln vehicle?

Charging an EV can take between 30-60 min with level 3 fast-charging or 8-20 hours with level one standard home-charging.***

5) Where can Lincoln electric cars be charged?

EVs can be charged at home using an installed charging station, offering overnight charging convenience. Public charging stations are rapidly growing in number, found at various locations like shopping centers, highways, workplaces, hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, and more. Use tools such as Chargefinder.com to locate charging stations near you.

6) Can EV batteries be recycled?

Once an electric vehicle's battery components are depleted (which likely won't occur for at least 10 years), recycling is indeed possible. While not every part of the battery is recyclable, new processes are expected to push upwards of 90% EV battery recycling, minimizing environmental impact.

7) Can electric models tow?

Yes. Here are some EV models that can tow**:

  • 2024 Lincoln Nautilus Hybrid is capable of towing 1,750 lbs.
  • 2024 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is capable of towing 3,000 lbs.
