What's New for the 2018 Lincoln MKT?

Lincoln-the luxury division of the Ford Motor Company-has been selling the MKT as its full-size crossover SUV since 2009. Still, in its first production cycle, the vehicle is barely changed for the 2018 model year. The only change is the trim naming; the models are no longer referred to as the base-level MKT and EcoBoost. Instead, they are now the Premiere and Reserve, respectively.

New Features and Highlights

With three rows of seats accommodating up to seven people, the 2018 Lincoln MKT supplies 160.2 cubic feet of passenger space. Cargo space is measured at 17.9 cubic feet, with the option of folding down both the second and third rows to expand it into the cabin. On the Premiere, leather covers front seating-which has 12-way power adjustability, power lumbar support, and heating and cooling capabilities-and the second row. Other comforts and convenience features include remote start, intelligent access (MyKey®) with push-button engine ignition, power-adjustable pedals with a memory system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a fixed-glass panoramic roof. Entertainment is provided by the SYNC® 3 communication system, which includes 10-speaker audio, a touchscreen, SiriusXM® satellite radio, AM/FM radio, a USB audio port and an audio jack with a second USB port strictly for charging mobile devices, voice recognition, a memory card slot, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for smartphone-based control. The Reserve is bolstered by additions and enhancements such as power-folding ability on the third-row seats, a heated steering wheel, HD Radio™ technology, a navigation system with SiriusXM® Traffic and SiriusXM® Travel Link, and a 14-speaker 600-watt THX® II Certified Audio System.

Engine, Transmission & MPG Specs

2018 Lincoln MKTPowering the Premiere trim of the 2018 Lincoln MKT is the 3.7-liter Cyclone V6, which produces 303 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. It is glued to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which includes SelectShift® technology for more control over gear shifting, as well as paddle activation for more convenient manual simulation. Although the Reserve also has the 6-speed SelectShift® transmission, it is-true to its former name-powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6, which produces 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Also, unlike the Premiere, which goes with a front-wheel drivetrain, the Reserve uses an all-wheel-drive system for improved traction ability and better performance on all types of terrain. Because of the variance in powertrain configuration, the Premiere provides a fuel economy of 16/24 mpg while the Reserve supplies 15/21 mpg.

Modern Safety Technology

2018 Lincoln MKTFor restraint and cushioning when in a car crash, the 2018 Lincoln MKT provides dual front impact airbags, a pair of side impact airbags installed on the front seats, and a pair of side curtain airbags flanking all three rows. Also standard are a post-crash alert system, a rearview camera with a front-passenger and reverse sensing system, AdvanceTrac® for electronic vehicle stability (accompanied by roll stability control and curve control), power four-wheel anti-lock ventilated disc brakes, and Belt-Minder® technology for reminding occupants to buckle up. Security is provided by SecuriLock®, which combines remote keyless entry, an entry keypad, a panic alarm, and engine immobilization. Added on the Reserve are blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
