The 2018 Lincoln Continental is an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus

2018 Lincoln Continental

The 2018 Lincoln Continental has earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award. Whether the sedan is for your personal use or for a family, this is reassuring news. No matter how much luxury you'll find in a Lincoln, safety must be its first priority.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does its own extensive crash testing. Continental sedans came away with a good in every category, including roof strength. Multiple crashes tested the car's structure in light of small and moderate overlaps. Evaluators looked at the effectiveness of the Continental airbags and other restraints.

Among its protections, there are kneebags situated in the lower dash to protect the vulnerable driver and front passenger. Lincoln has exclusive rear inflatable seat belts, which are a favorite option when you have kids or teens. Of course, there are LATCH attachments, allowing you to use any two of the three rear seats.

To earn a superior rating for its collision avoidance system, Continentals had to demonstrate a viable forward collision warning. It also had to pass several crash tests for both the low-speed and high-speed automatic braking system.

Lincoln appears to be focused on your safety and the safety of others on the road with you. As such, automation goes beyond the autobrake to include Lincoln's lane assist. This corrects the car's trajectory and pulls it gently within the lane lines. Active Park Assist eliminates many common errors during parking. A 360-degree camera system lets you see all sides during slow maneuvers. In reverse, the rear cross-traffic alert warns you to stop before an encounter with a moving car. On the go, a blind spot monitor can watch for side traffic. As you can imagine, this suite of features surrounds you with ways to avoid everything from a scratch to a major accident.

Receiving the Top Safety Pick+ Award isn't a complete surprise since the Continental earned the award last year when it was reintroduced to the market. Furthermore, the car earned all five stars when tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. At Camelback Lincoln, we are proud that Lincoln offers leadership in safety just as it does in luxury and technology.
